Beyond the K-16 System: The Future of Work
This talk will focus on the ways young people can set themselves up for success in the future workplace. Meredith will discuss the latest research on the expected economic impacts of the 4th Industrial Revolution, how young people might bridge the gap between school and the world, and how to thrive in an era of exponential change.
After a decade in the classroom, Meredith decided to launch Five Years In, an initiative that creates programs, workshops, partnerships, and strategies to prepare young people for the future of work. Meredith is the founder and director of Portland’s largest entrepreneurship challenge for high school students, a work-based learning program in partnership with a farmer’s market and a platform to connect young people with leadership and learning opportunities in the community. She teaches workshops and classes on everything from personal finance, to the 4th industrial revolution, to innovation, to getting started in the gig economy. She loves building partnerships and learning from the future. She has written widely about the future of work and new models for work-based learning.
