Riverdale Grade School (RGS) Parent Teacher Club (PTC) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Its members (parents, teachers and staff) pay no dues.
Our Mission: The RGS PTC strives to enrich Riverdale’s Preschool-8 education by enhancing curriculum activities, encouraging parent involvement, supporting student participation, and fostering communication to strengthen our community.
What is the difference between the Riverdale School District Foundation and the PTC? The Foundation’s dollars go directly into the District’s operating budget to help close the gap between the budget and the funds actually received by the state. The PTC funds specific programs and services for the grade school that are not in the District budget.
What are the major ways that the PTC enriches the educational experience at the grade school? The PTC provides financial and volunteer support in five main areas:
1. Classroom Enrichment – Art literacy, special project grants, teacher grants, performances/speakers, financial aid (music, field studies, lunch)
2. Extracurricular – Community school, extended care, athletics (financial aid and uniforms)
3. Community Building – New family liaisons, grade connectors, back-to-school events, carnival, auction, party packs, field day, playgroup, etc.
4. Teacher Support – Teacher training, classroom funds for teachers, library support, class parties, monthly staff lunches, food at conferences and Teacher Appreciation Week
5. RGS Support – Weekly/quarterly newsletter, lunch ordering coordination, lunch service coordination, directories, back-to-school packet, facilities improvements, equipment and supplies.
Who oversees the management of the organization? Each year, an executive board is voted in as officers at the June general meeting. Through their ongoing commitment to the bylaws and budget approved by the membership, they uphold the mission of the PTC. They serve in their role for two years, except for the President-Elect who shadows the President for one year. The President oversees the overall operations. The Vice President manages and recruits volunteers. The Communications officer manages the PTC website, weekly newsletter and overall communications. The Secretary keeps the meeting minutes and updates the bulletin boards. The Treasurer pays vendors, reimburses expenses and manages the money overall.

Monthly meetings (usually the 2nd Wednesday of each month) are in the Grade School Commons. Arrive at 8:45 a.m. for coffee or by 9:00 a.m. for the 1 ½ hour meeting. Come on your way back from a morning run or on your way to the office. If you have little ones not yet in school, bring them along–we will have a corner for them to play.
There are two bulletin boards for parents to peruse: One inside located across from the Preschool classroom and one exterior bulletin board adjacent to the bicycle pavilion near the playground. Meeting agenda and minutes will be posted here.
The PTC publishes an online weekly newsletter. An email is sent every Friday to let you know it has been updated. This is a must read if you want to know what is happening at the school. The PTC website (www.riverdaleptc.org) also has links to the PTC Store (to pay for class parties, teacher appreciation funds, pay for tickets to Party Packs, Ladies’ Stag, Carnival, etc.) and Community School registration as well as other helpful information. Over the course of the year, if your email address changes, please notify the PTC Communications chair, at RGSCommunications@riverdaleptc.org
Our annual budget includes expenses that may be incurred by volunteers. The form for expense authorization/reimbursement may be found in the front office and on the PTC website. Each program’s chair is to meet at least annually with the PTC President or Vice President to review the budget, expense authorization process, etc.
