Spring Garden Club 2019

WEDNESDAYS
GRADES 2 – 8
Calling all budding botanists!  Come enjoy time in the garden – planting and tending food crops for our school lunchroom and flowers to make arrangements for our front office and a weekly “Falcon Flower” offering for a teacher.  We will also garden for wildlife and provide food and shelter for birds and beneficial insects.  Spring brings much beauty and bounty to celebrate and share, come play and help provide for our community! Open to parents too!

Hip Hop & Jazz Class – Spring 2019

MONDAYS
GRADES K-3
For girls & boys! Join us for a new Spring session with all new dance routines! Learn the basic techniques of dance and how to move to the beat. We promote a healthy life-style through fun-physical activity that encourages self expression through music and movement. This is a performance-based class, designed to help students gain confidence and self-esteem. We teach age-appropriate dance routines to pop music and classics from the past! We put on a rockin’ performance in costumes on the last day for family and friends to enjoy! Students will even to keep their Funky Divas & Dudes tee from the show!

Clay Sculpture spring 2019

TUESDAYS
GRADES 2-8
Have you worked with clay before?  Well, if you think you know how it’s done – think again!  We will create several fun and challenging clay sculpture projects using techniques that will raise some eye brows for sure. The instructor will challenge you to take clay sculpture to the limit that will require you to be a bit of an engineer.  Bring lots of imagination and a healthy portion of patience and watch your hands bring a piece of clay to life!  At the end of the course you will be able to take home all your pieces of art to enjoy.  THIS CLASS IS ALSO OPEN TO PARENTS!

Collage and Decoupage Spring 2019

THURSDAYS
GRADES K-8
Wow – two very fancy words…  What do they mean?  In the collage section of the course we will create a fabulous piece of original art on real canvas using nothing but acrylic paint and clippings from magazines and newspapers.  You will be amazed what you can create using little bits and pieces of colored paper and arranging them to form a larger image – your art piece!  During our decoupage segment we will be decorating useful every-day items such as flower pots, picture frames, and boxes also using images on paper and then preserving them with acrylic, so you can enjoy them for a long time to come! And you will never have to hear not to use so much glue – the instructor will tell you to use more!  
I wouldn’t miss this one, if I were you!  
THIS CLASS IS ALSO OPEN TO PARENTS!

Chess – Spring 2019

FRIDAYS
GRADES K-8
Want to learn how to play chess? The rules of the game, how pieces move and how to win at chess?   New players will learn the rules and objective of the game, how the various pieces move, and how to win at chess.  The class will start with step by step instruction for beginners.  Advanced beginners will study opening principles and practice some quieter openings and tactics.  The class will include instruction time followed by playing time.  Students will have the opportunity to have games vs. peers in the class.

Jazz Band RGS Spring 2019

MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS
GRADES 6-8
This course covers the study and performance of swing, latin, funk and rock styles with an emphasis on advanced rhythmic concepts, chord to scale relationships and improvisation. Studying privately is encouraged.
Jazz Band runs all year long and is a full year commitment. Sign up is three times a year.

This course will introduce the young jazz musician to basic jazz, latin, funk and rock arrangements, work on listening skills, ensemble playing techniques and explore improvisation. Open to all instruments, this is the perfect opportunity for the beginning jazz student or seasoned jazz player interested in working on a second instrument. All students must have at least one year of musical study.

Riverdale After School

Riverdale After School Program, Inc. (RAS) offers before and after school care to all Riverdale families. RAS is open Monday – Friday from 7:30 – 8:20am before school and from 3:20 – 6:00pm after school. (2:20 – 6:00pm on Wednesdays). We will open our doors on the first day of school and follow the school calendar.
