What is auction?  Every year, the Riverdale Grade School and High School host a fundraising auction.  This is the PTC’s biggest fundraiser.  The format may vary year to year, but events typically include games, silent and/or live auction, a paddle raise and, of course, food, cocktails and FUN.
Why do we have an auction?  We have an auction to raise money to support the PTC.  The PTC funds and runs dozens of programs at the grade school and high school, including athletics, art literacy, field day, carnival, lunch, community school, field studies, field trips, guest speakers, teacher grants for technology and school supplies and much, much more.  The auction is the single largest source of revenue for the PTC and as such, we depend on our community to show up and be part of this community event.
How can I be involved in auction?  You can be involved in so many ways.  If you would like to donate a gift card for businesses/services valued at $50 or more, or you would like to donate a bottle of wine/spirits valued at $25 or more, please contact Allison Williams at allisonleodler@gmail.com.  If you would be interested in being a corporate sponsor of our event (there are great perks!) contact auction@riverdaleptc.org.  If you are interested in volunteering to help on the night of, please contact auction@riverdaleptc.org.  The most important way you can be involved with auction is simply to buy a ticket and come.  To read more about being involved click here.
Are kids involved in auction? Auction is an adult-only event.  Although, if your kids have a little allowance money laying around, they can ask you to purchase raffle tickets for a 4-pack of one day park-hopper passes to Disneyland!  The passes are valued at $675, but raffle tickets are priced at only $10.  To purchase raffle tickets click here.  You may not even know it, but grade school kids have already played a major role in this year’s auction.  All of the grade school students worked on collaborative art pieces that will be auctioned off in the silent or live auction and the 7/8 leadership students stuffed, sealed, stamped and labeled YOUR auction invitation!  For a sneak peek click here   I wonder which class parent will be lucky enough to go home with your student’s art…
How can I attend auction?  Buy a ticket to auction here.  Note that first-timer ticket is only $95.  Or, go for the extra perks and buy a patron ticket or a patron table.
Where will I park at auction?  There is limited parking available near our venue, the Leftbank Annex, but it would probably be easier to get a ride.  Don’t forget, patrons enjoy free Uber and Lyft on auction night.
What goes on at auction?  You’ll want to show up at 6pm sharp because the events and the fun begin immediately.  When you show up, cocktail hour will be in full swing with glasses of passed bubbly, fun games like Chance Balloons, silent auction items to bid on and party packs to sign up for.  This year, we are thrilled to be showcasing original art pieces by 13 talented RHS students.  These pieces will be available in the silent auction.  After the cocktail hour, we will fill our plates and find our seats for the live auction.  Live auction prizes are experienced-based packages.  We haven’t announced them quite yet, but if you love skiing, wine, music, the beach, the woods or shoes… you’re in luck.  The evening concludes with dancing so don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes!
What is a party pack?  Party Packs are another important PTC fundraiser.  These parties are hosted throughout the year by small groups of parents.  The hosts cover the costs of the party and all the proceeds from the ticket sales are donated back to the PTC.  Some are adult-only, some are kid-focused and some are fun for the whole family.  There is truly a party for everyone.  The parties are revealed during the cocktail hour of the auction.  Sign up sheets will be available and some parties will sell out at auction.  You MUST be present to sign up for a party.  Only parties that do not sell out will be opened up to general sales after the event.  Come early to get your tickets.
What is a paddle raise?  Each year, our principals submit their wish lists and we ask our community to raise their paddle to support these needs.  Unlike other funds raised at auction, the money contributed by the community during the paddle raise is ear-marked for very specific requests.  This year’s paddle raise will focus on emergency preparedness supplies and technology upgrades.
Who will I sit with at auction?  The only way to guarantee your table mates is to purchase a patron table for 8.  If you buy tickets individually, as you click though the ticket purchase site  you will see a box that allows you to fill in your table-mate preferences.  You can specify individual names, or you can make new friends by indicating something like, “5th grade parents.”  The auction committee will make every effort to seat you accordingly.  Did something go wrong with your purchase?  Don’t worry, email auction@riverdaleptc.org.  A really nice person actually checks this email every day and will get back to your right away.
What is a Patron?  Patrons choose to pay a little extra for their auction tickets.  In addition to being recognized at the event, they get express check-in, free drinks and free rides to and from the event.  To see all the ticketing option details click here
 
What do I wear?  This year’s auction theme is “City Lights” so dress to impress for a night out on the town.  We will have more ideas coming out in future parent packs so stay tuned.  Attire-wise, a little bit of everything can be seen at auction.  However, generally speaking, most women will wear something along the lines of cocktail attire and men are a split 50-50 between those who wear suits and those who wear jeans with blazers.  This year’s auction is not a costume event.  
 
How will I pay for things at auction?  You can choose to pre-register your card when you purchase your auction tickets.  This will make registration on the night of the event simpler.  When you check in to the auction, we will need a credit card (if you haven’t pre-registered it) and that card will be associated with your assigned bidder number.  Chance Balloons, silent auction, live auction, paddle raise and party pack sign-ups will all be done with your bidder number.  You will get one bill at the end of the night.  Bring cash or card for the bar unless you bought a patron ticket.
What if I can’t go?  If you can’t attend auction, we would still love (and need!) your financial support.  Please click here to purchase raffle tickets and make a tax deductible donation to our event.  If you get your heart set on one of the fantastic silent or live items (once we reveal them!), you can enlist a proxy to bid on AND PAY FOR your item if you win…but it’s better to be there!
